When a room is one color, it can look very good, but sometimes you just need an accent color to really bring the room to life.
White walls look great. It gives a room a feel of cleanliness and it’s also a minimalistic color that can make a room look larger than it actually is, it also beings in a lot of light. The only problem with white though, is that it can seem a bit too cold for a home sometimes. White is good for offices and business premises where it can look very professional, but in a home it can be a little boring.
One way in which you can add a more homey feel to white, is to accent the room with colors like teal. Shades of blue, seafoam, teal and turquoise really complete the look of a room. You can also be creative in the way you apply accent colors.
You can use accent colors on curtains, cushions, candles, bedsheets or any objects around the room. If you use teal colored objects, with plain white walls and a white ceiling, and then complete the look with a teal carpet, you can really make the room look spectacular.
You could use teal or different shades of blue for each item of the décor, or you could use the exact same shade of teal for each item, which will give the room a look of uniformity. Whilst at the same time making it look welcoming and calming.
By choosing to use the color teal uniformly throughout the room as an accent, you may need to search for a long while to find objects in the exact shade you are looking for, but all the extra effort will be paid back by having a very beautiful looking room.
You could also paint one wall in teal, and have the other walls a different color. When using teal as a wall accent color, you can make the room look amazing. It can seem a little difficult to paint one wall only a specific color, but with care, it can be easily done.
All you need to do it “cut-in” with a small paintbrush, painting along the line where the two walls meet. This is the most difficult step, once you have painted up to the edges of the walls, and where it meets the ceiling, you can then use a roller to finish the job as usual.
It might take a little longer to paint one wall with a teal accent color, but it’s worth the extra effort. It’s the small touches and the attention to detail which really makes your decorating look professionally done.
Of course, although we have mentioned white as the main color, and teal as the accent color. Teal goes well with colors other than white. Teal can go well with any light color, it could go well with light shades of green or yellow.
Be inventive in the way you use teal and use your imagination. You can always experiment by doing a crude sketch of the room on a piece of artist’s paper, and paint the colors in for the different walls and objects. This will give you a good impression of what the room will look like when completed, rather than finding out afterwards that it doesn’t really work.
